About me

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

Well, I use WordPress, like most people who are not used to coding. They keep badgering me to make a blog post and not to worry about how it turns out. WordPress is so thoughtful that they have given a few pointers about how to go about my first post. It’s them who wanted me to introduce myself first, and I thought, why not?

I’m a medical student in Kerala, right now. In a few years I’ll graduate and become a doctor. I just hope that I’ll remember to come back and edit this paragraph when that happens. If I continue writing in this till then, that is.

Why do this?

Because WordPress says it gives new readers context. Because it will help me focus my ideas about my blog and what I’d like to do with it.

Oh… You mean why start a blog, anyway!

Well, some people start a blog to make money. Others start it as hobby. Still others start it as a hobby and go on to see the money making potentials of it. Me, well, I don’t know. I have seen so many wonderful blogs that describe people’s travels and they have helped fuel my wanderlust, and allowed me to enjoy my travels without the fear of missing out on anything important, because of my ignorance.

I also feel that everyone should be vocal about their experiences so that others can learn from them and things become a little less hard. If you want to plan a trip there are a lot of online resources to help you with it. But it’s still incomplete and there’s a lot left to see and explore. As the online world expands and more and more people share their experiences and recommendations, the information on the internet becomes more wholesome. So, here’s me doing my part.

Well, you’ve also seen the name of the blog. ‘booksandtheopenroad’. I’m an avid reader as well, and I want to post book reviews here too. I’ll try to include travelogues, but I’ll also be posting about other books.
